Among the many student groups on Adrian College’s campus, one not many people recognize is Circle K.
Circle K is a nationwide group that does community service. They put together events and come up with fundraisers that they can volunteer at. At meetings, students are able to sign up for what they would like to help with and are able to meet other people on campus and from other schools.
“My favorite part about Circle K is knowing all of the local organizations that I can volunteer at and that need our help,” said secretary and senior Heidi Roberts.
Roberts also said that she recommends Circle K as a group for other students to join because you get to meet a lot of people from different universities around Adrian College and can do a lot of volunteering and setting up events and fundraisers for good causes.
Upcoming fundraisers for Circle K include their Hand on a Van event, which will be Sunday in the Merillat parking lot at noon. Circle K is also hosting a ‘Dance Dance Revolution’ fundraiser Feb. 23, from 5 – 9 p.m.
Adrian’s Circle K is also involved with the University of Michigan’s group. They became affiliated with each other because of district events, where they do socials and volunteer together. The U of M is the closest Circle K group to Adrian, so they work together often.
On March 4th, students from Adrian’s group will be heading down to Ann Arbor to attend one of their meetings, which are held every Thursday from 7 – 8p.m.
On Tuesday, Adrian’s Circle K elected students who will obtain positions on their executive board for the fall semester. Those who were nominated had to give a speech from one to three minutes and had an answer-and-question session.
Roberts said she joined the group the beginning of her junior year, and believes the volunteer experience is a good opportunity for any student.
Meetings are held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Hickman Boardroom in Caine Student Center.
