Last weekend, the Bulldogs proved once again that they are by far the most dominant team in the MCHA with a series sweep against the Concordia Falcons. The Bulldogs opened up the series on Friday evening with a show of force scoring six goals in the first 20 minutes of play. Besides being an important victory for the Bulldogs, as it secured at least a share of the MCHA title, the night had a special significance for one Bulldog in particular.
Junior Shawn Skelly netted a historic goal when he sent the puck flying to the back of the net for the 131st time, breaking the MCHA’s previous scoring record of 130. The crowd showed their appreciation for Skelly’s efforts by giving him a standing ovation while the clock was stopped for the celebration.
Saturday evening Concordia would not allow the Bulldogs to score as many goals, keeping the AC margin of victory to be only two. The Bulldogs were able to finish out the evening with a final score of 5-3.
Saturday afternoon, AC played host to yet another Bulldog star, junior Sam Kuzyk. Kuzyk would go on to score a hat trick for the Dawgs, netting Adrian’s first three full strength goals.
Adrian was able to outshoot Concordia by a margin of 24 with a final tally of 48-24. The Falcons goal tender, Dustin Le Claire, was able to stop 43 shots from the Bulldogs, but the five that went through were enough to win the match for the Dawgs.
The Bulldogs are set to take the ice against MSOE Friday evening at 7 p.m. in what is scheduled to be a weekend series that will be held at the Arrington Ice Arena.
